Do you have a lot of photos? Do you want to share them either by emailing them or uploading them to some photo sharing website like Flickr? With the sheer size of digital photos these days, and the file-size limitations in email and photo sharing sites, you need a solution! Don’t sit there for hours on end resizing those photos one by one because there are programs out there to help you do it all at once! Here I have a list of three free options to chose from:
- Picture Resizer 3.0 – I came across this free program and was very surprised at the simplicity! All you have to do is download the program file named “PhotoResize400.exe” and save it to your desktop, drage and drop your photos into the program icon, and voila! Your resized photos will have a slightly different name so they don’t overwrite the originals in the source folder. Another cool thing about this one is that you can control the size of the outputted photos by changing the number in the name of the program! Neat, huh?
- Image Resizer PowerToy Clone for Windows – Appearently there was available for Windows XP a PowerToy that could resize photos with the (right) click of a mouse button. Well, now there is a clone or remake of this program for non-XP versions of windows and it, too, is simple to install and use. Once installed, when you right-click on a photo or bunch of photos, there will be an option on the menu to “resize.”

- VSO Image Resizer – One I haven’t personally tried yet but have heard good things about is VSO Image Resizer. Apparently this program also enables an option on the right-click menu. Giver a try and let me know your opinion!
Not really free but worthy of an honorable mention is Photoshop because with Photoshop you can automate almost any task including resizing!
Choose your weapon and let me know which you like the best! In fact, if you have your own favorite, let me know too!

Great recommendations! What I normally do is try to set my digital camera to take lower resolution pictures, since I know more often than not they are just going straight to Facebook or Flickr. But sometimes I forget to set them that way and these apps will be helpful to batch-resize those.

Tim – one of the best all around image “manipulation” tools (not editing) is Irfanview. It not only converts between a huge list of file formats, but has a batch mode that can be used on hundreds or tens of thousands of images at once – excellent product – and free.

Good suggestion, Christopher! I believe I’ve used older versions of that program back in my print shop working days! I either used it for some batch options or converting drawings or something. I’ll def revisit it! Thanks!
